The Horseshoe Casino is located in Council Bluffs just off I-80.

It is a land-based casino that has an adjoining hotel and greyhound racing track called Bluffs Run.

The basic layout is that they have table games in the center of the casino and slot machines all around.

They have a very good selection of table games with just about anything you would want.

The Horseshoe boasts to have over 1700 slots of just about any and all types. I would say that is right. They also have a no-smoking slot area.

They have high limit areas for both table games and slots. Most high limit slots are in the center part of the casino. High limit table games are toward the back in a nice little room adjacent to the poker room.

Speaking of poker room, the Horseshoe has a great poker room. They have 18 tables with $3-6 limit and no-limit games going all the time. They have some morning tournaments and evening tournaments most nights.

This is my favorite place to play poker. There is always a game and the dealers are good people who like what they do.

It must be a favorite for a lot of others too because it is now the only poker room in Council Bluffs. Ameristar tried an electronic dealer-less poker table a few years ago and it did not catch on.

The Horseshoe has some good dining choices while there. They offer a large buffet of many choices, Jack Binion’s Steakhouse, and a smaller sandwich shop that has great chef’s salads.

One of my only drawbacks with the place is that there is almost always a long line at the cashier cage. Wouldn’t you think they would want people playing instead of waiting in line? They really need to have more cashiers during the evenings and weekends.

One nice amenity they have is a coin machine. You can take a bag of coins in and trade it in for slot vouchers at no charge. If you just want the cash, they will charge a 10% fee.

Overall I like the Horseshoe and would recommend it. The poker room is definitely worth the trip.
